in the squares and plazas

in the squares and plazas                             October 29, 2017
i can’t buy bread
with your pity
and my tears won’t set you free
so we say nothing
and go months without speaking
only writing
about the world
of hunger and chains
we cannot even read
what the other writes
across the oceans of alphabets

how can i tell you
that among equals
there can be no pity
and no bound hands?
for pity and power
are two links on the chains
of poverty an inequity

and how can i show you
that these bloody tears
corrode the iron of prison bars?
it is always the sobs
of hungry women
that erode the foundations
of tyrants and pharaohs and borders

let me cry for you
for i have only love
and the keening
of mothers and lovers
is a prayer that moves
rivers and fates

let me cry for you
in the squares and plazas
for then they will all see
that my poverty has made me wealthy
in love and tears
for then they will all see
that your chains have made you wise
in justice and eagles’ wings

About m

My ego wants to think I'm a writer but my heart knows I'm just another one of God's Kids who sometimes has words to say. 2 human kids and 3 feline kids call me Mom. Or Mooooooom. Or mewom, depending which you ask. I'm kinda-sorta busy being a student again; this time I signed myself up for a bizarre torture known as Graduate School. Theoretically in 4ish years I'll have earned some more nice letters to put with my name. Let's face it, I'm addicted to learning and probably need rehab to restore me to sanity and remove the obsession to read books. I don't remember what free time is but I think I like to spend it sleeping or playing in the mud on a river bank.
