loose drops

loose drops                                    January 13, 2016
“your bucket’s no good” he says
“with all those holes in the bottom.
you need one like mine. i never spill a drop.”

she fills her bucket in the clear spring
every morning.
everywhere she walks she leaves a trail
of growing things.

his bucket is growing slime
in the stale old water.
dead flies are collecting in it.
the path to his house
is packed dirt hardened from his trudging
with a heavy bucket.

the path to her home
is soft grass and wild flowers
watered everyday with gentle drips
from her leaky bucket.

every night he prays
by his full bucket
not to lose a drop.

every night she prays
for it all to drain out
and hangs her bucket
on a hook over the herb garden.

in the morning it is light
and she skips to the spring.

in the morning his bucket is heavy
with no room or fresh water
and he must take care
not to slosh it on himself.

About m

My ego wants to think I'm a writer but my heart knows I'm just another one of God's Kids who sometimes has words to say. 2 human kids and 3 feline kids call me Mom. Or Mooooooom. Or mewom, depending which you ask. I'm kinda-sorta busy being a student again; this time I signed myself up for a bizarre torture known as Graduate School. Theoretically in 4ish years I'll have earned some more nice letters to put with my name. Let's face it, I'm addicted to learning and probably need rehab to restore me to sanity and remove the obsession to read books. I don't remember what free time is but I think I like to spend it sleeping or playing in the mud on a river bank.
