the judge

the judge
i used to look up in awe
of your talents and skills
your aura of superiority
traps you tighter than
the shackles of hell
ever could

you might
enter the kingdom
but you never will
multiply god’s coins
by hoarding them

good fortune is kept
by giving it away
plant it far and wide
that you may reap
what you have sown

secure now in my own
blessed cursed abilities
i remember a foolish girl
who wanted – like you –
to be better than everyone
she’s dead

she knew the rewards
of giving up everything
– and did it anyways–
an ultimate act of selfless
love and service
killed her gone forever

she did not know
how justice would be served
for her
the plate is paper
and she uses a pen for a fork
but it is right and fitting

she sees you
up there alone
you read judgement
because that is what you know
unable to recognize
how death has made her wise

she asked god for knowledge, courage
and only to follow his will
she woke in the morning
with a prophet’s staff
placed in her hands
the command to use it well

suffer not your curse
come down where you can see
not the top of her head
but her clear blue eyes
blue like the mountain lake
not a window anymore
but a still reflection

the guilty verdict you imagine
is but your own invention
you know you have been crooked
and are waiting for her condemnation
when will you learn
to set yourself free
from the prison of your self
with simple humility
confession and apology?

About m

My ego wants to think I'm a writer but my heart knows I'm just another one of God's Kids who sometimes has words to say. 2 human kids and 3 feline kids call me Mom. Or Mooooooom. Or mewom, depending which you ask. I'm kinda-sorta busy being a student again; this time I signed myself up for a bizarre torture known as Graduate School. Theoretically in 4ish years I'll have earned some more nice letters to put with my name. Let's face it, I'm addicted to learning and probably need rehab to restore me to sanity and remove the obsession to read books. I don't remember what free time is but I think I like to spend it sleeping or playing in the mud on a river bank.
